Stone Tile and Paver Sealing

Marble and Concrete Sealing in Sydney

Some facts about sealing hard surfaces

It is not absolutely necessary to seal porcelain due to their density. However porcelain with a rough surface and the grout lines can definitely attract staining and be difficult to clean. If you are to seal polished tiles you must be very careful and remove unwanted sealer residue from the surface before it hardens. If it is not removed at the time of sealing you can get sealer haze and will lose the polish finish. Removing sealer haze is difficult and costly.

Porous synthetic or natural stones tiles will need to be sealed to prevent permanent staining. From the time they are laid, tiles can be exposed to efflorescence, salt attack, picture framing, spalling, spills, weather, animals, children and tradesmen, so it is best to seal them sooner rather than later.

Sealing your tiles will not stop them from getting dirty but will work by making what was once a porous surface that would attract and draw in oils, waters, moulds etc, to now a treated surface that will repeal these penetrates. In return your job of hosing, moping or sweeping will now be a lot more effective and easier.

All natural stones are acid sensitive. For example: Red wines, fruit juices, vinegars, cokes and most cleaning products can etch into your stone giving a patchy, dull or smokey look. This can only be corrected by regrinding or polishing. The right sealers will protect from acids etching.

Patterned or Stencil colored concretes look awesome when they are new. Unprotected they can immediately begin to fade due to UV damage and quickly discolor when penetrated by foreign matter. Moisture entering below the surface of concrete and freezing at night will also quickly deteriorate and shorten concretes life. Fusion recommends sealing concrete for protection from the above things and makings your areas much easier and manageable to clean.

Penetrating Sealers

Penetrating sealers work by sinking into the substrate and protect it from within. They deposit either a natural or synthetic resin into the pore of the tile. AFter the sealer is applied, the water or solvent evaporates and leaves the resin in the stone. It then hardens and bonds with the stone to form an invisible protecting barrier that prevents the surface from absorbing unwanted matter. The major benifit fo Penetrating sealers is that they let tile breathe and will never peal or scratch.

Advantages

  • Will not change the appearance of your stone,
  • Let the tile breath.
  • Can recoat on top without having to strip old sealer.
  • Won't wear or scratch,
  • Lasts years longer,
  • Very quick drying,

Film Forming or Topical Sealers

opical sealers form a film on the top of the substrate and provide a coating that protects it from damage. The purpose of the sealer is to reduce the natural absorbency of the substrate so foreign materials will not sink in but will instead remain on the surface until they can be wiped away. Gloss and colours can be added to these sealers along with hardeners and non slip grits if needed.

Garage, office and factory concrete floors really benefit from colour coating epoxy sealing.
